Just scheduled the second meetup of a new group I started in Des Moines called Des Moines Content Nerds.

I started the group with a few loose goals in mind:

  • Add an information design and communication strategy perspective to the local design conversation
  • Connect people in Des Moines interested in content strategy and information architecture (whether current practitioners or interested outsiders)
  • Practice discussing my craft with other professionals outside of the few conferences I'm able to attend each year
  • Be less of a social and professional hermit

I hope Des Moines Content Nerds will complement other excellent local efforts to connect Des Moines' web community like Design+Tech, Des Moines Web Geeks, and the many language- and platform-specific user groups.

Want to join?

Our next meetup is Wednesday, May 15, from 6pm-8pm at Caribou Coffee on Ingersoll. If you're interested but can't make the event, join the Meetup group anyway to be notified of future events.

Want to help?

I need three things right now: members, sponsors, and event hosts.

Members: Content Strategy is a new term for an old skillset. Webmasters, editors, content managers, web designers -- just a few of the job titles that have to deal with issues of content strategy and information architecture. If you know anyone that might benefit from our group, please send them our way.

Sponsorship: As costs are minimal--the Meetup.com subscription, occasional room rentals, food and drink, book giveaways, nametags--sponsorships are inexpensive and flexible. Support Des Moines' growing content strategy community for as little as $50 for a meetup sponsorship. Contact me for details.

Hosting: Can we crash at your place? If you have a room with a projector that can accommodate 15+ and would like to host a meetup, please contact me. Dates and times are flexible.

Want to start your own Content Nerds group outside of Central Iowa?

Go for it! Just keep me in the loop so we can share ideas and best practices.
