1) A fierce Ghostbuster
I was queering up the Ghostbusters long before Holtzmann, apparently. What we were going for here was Egon from the cartoon The Real Ghostbusters, who has blonde hair and red glasses. What we ended up with was more Sex and the City and also Ghosts?
2) An adorable little Batman, if I do say so myself
I don’t quite remember this Halloween but I do remember playing with the Batman gear long after afterwards. The aesthetics of Tim Burton’s Batman movies were something I really dug, even as a little kid. I also have fond memories of my Micro Machines Batmobile and Batwing toys.
3) A comfortable knight
Ever wonder what knights wear under all that armor? Sensible and comfortable sweats, of course. In teal, if possible.
4) A famous detective who neglected to pack dress shoes in his gym bag, perhaps
This was a rental from a real costume shop! Why they had a more-or-less youth-sized Sherlock Holmes outfit, I do not know.
One couple at a trick-or-treating stop were so excited to have a little Sherlock Holmes at their door that they gave me huge handfuls of candy and could be heard whooping and clapping from inside as we walked away.
5) The concept of baseball
This was a last-minute outfit for a boy/girl party I got invited to at the last minute. Or maybe I only remembered it was a costume party at the last minute (probable).
We played spin the bottle but I can’t remember if I actually smooched anyone. Perhaps I didn’t want to muss the makeup.
6) Zapp Brannigan
If photograph evidence of this exists, please destroy it. I put together an outfit as Zapp Brannigan from Futurama for a college party from cheap stuff at Wal-Mart. Most creatively, I bought two identical long-sleeve maroon t-shirts and used the bottom half of one of them as Zapp’s, uh, skirt.
7) The Crow
Hot Topic had recently come to Nebraska via a store at Westroads mall, and I was In. To. It. I didn’t even really like The Crow movies (they’re bad) but I did like having an excuse to wear all black and paint my nails black and act moody. I’m sure someone from high school has photos but I don’t. I do remember two things: 1. I was one half of the pair of dunces that managed to spill an enormous pot of chili our hostesses’ lovely mother had prepared. 2. At one point the synthetic fabrics in my shirt started to smoke and melt from sitting near the fire too long.
