Lots of travel this month, which for me means lots of ride-sharing rides. The gig economy is problematic in so many ways but Lyft seems less awful on the surface than Uber. So I take Lyft. Working backwards from my most recent ride…
1. Abel, in a Blue Jeep Patriot
Abel took my boss and me to DCA after a client workshop in Maryland. He and his GPS weren’t getting along which means I got to see many beautiful residential homes out that way. Lots of nice brick.
2. Waqas, in a Black Toyota Prius
Waqas took us from DCA to the hotel…well actually straight to a restaurant by the hotel, where I ate some good ribs. A jazz trio played underneath an enormous painting of George Washington while we waited for our table. Pretttttty much exactly what I imagined that area to be like. It was dark when we got in, so not much sightseeing. I glimpsed the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument from the highway. Reminds me that I need to plan an actual trip out that way…
3. Roberta, in a Silver Kia Optima
Roberta seemed excited to be heading to the airport. She likes driving under the planes while they’re landing. Me too, Roberta! Whoosh!
4. Derek, in a Black Lexus IS 250
I felt so fancy in a Lexus! Derek picked me up in St. Paul after a client meeting. He drives Lyft a few hours a week and is a minority investor in a new brewery opening up. He’s making moves to work for himself full-time. Good luck, Derek.
5. Obi, in a Black Toyota Camry Hybrid
Obi very patiently waited for me after I got all the way into his car before realizing I did not have my computer with me.
6. Doris, in a White Hyundai Sonata
Doris very patiently waited for me after I got all the way out to her car before realizing I did not have my luggage with me. My luggage! Travel brain, man. She took my coworker and me to the airport in Indianapolis after one of our conferences there. Good town, Indy. I’m missing Steak & Shake already.
7. Dwight, in a Gray Toyota Prius
Dwight…Dwight you were seven rides ago, my man. I’m sure you were kind and I hope I made good small talk but who can even remember anymore? So many faces.
