I’m of the opinion that the job you have now is probably your “first” content design job, as content design is something you can begin practicing in just about any role as a knowledge worker. But of course, your salary might not reflect that! Lots of great tips here from folks at various stages of their careers, from folks who’ve recently broken in to the perspective of hiring managers.
