No. 57 | Seven books I didn’t read last year

I read a lot of great books in 2018, and there are even more that I didn’t read, even though I easily could have! No judgment, just life.

1) A Darker Shade of Magic – V.E. Schwab

The first book (of many) of 2018 that got automatically checked out, delivered to my Kindle, and automatically returned, all without me even noticing. What a world.

2) You Are Not a Gadget – Jaron Lanier

Picked this up at a used book store. Put it down on a shelf. It’s still there.

3) Ways of Seeing – John Gall

really want to be someone who’s read this book. Hasn’t happened yet. This poor little fellow was a physical hold I let expire at the library, like an unclaimed bag circling on the carousel, or a child forgotten at daycare by an alcoholic father.

4) Packing for Mars – Mary Roach

I am still planning to go to Mars but it’s probably not going to happen this year, I’ve got a lot going on, so no hurry I suppose.

5) The Left Hand of Darkness – Ursula K. Le Guin

I was pretty into the first 70 or so pages and I bet I would have liked the rest. Oh well!

6) The Bible – (Various)

I wasn’t planning on reading it. But I want to acknowledge that I still have not read it. I definitely did not read the one that was in the drawer alongside bits of popcorn (??) and mouse droppings in the $40/night traveler’s motel near downtown Omaha.

7) Scrappy Little Nobody – Anna Kendrick

This book and its friend (pictured) were kindly loaned to me a while ago by my coworker Tenessa and I haven’t finished either of them. Sorry Tenessa!
